When you file an Assignment in bankruptcy not only do you sign over to the trustee all of your assets, but also any future assets that you come into before you are discharged from bankruptcy. This can include such things as lottery winnings or inheritances. Any inheritance that you receive or are entitled to receive while in bankruptcy vest in the trustee. The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act is federal legislation and applies in every province, not just Manitoba.
